Artists Resources.

Whether you’re just starting out working with resin, or are looking for new hints and tips, here are a few useful resources. Or come along to a workshop or try my online course for more guidance.

Working with resin.

Resin is a two part epoxy, which when combined causes a chemical reaction, resulting in a hardening process. There is a small amount of time in which to manipulate the resin whilst in its fluid form.

Making art.

Whilst in its fluid form, you can add colours, pigments and textures to create different effects. To create waves you’ll need a few tools:

  • A level - if you don’t have one, you can use the Art Resin Level on your phone!

  • Heat gun - ideally with a small end nozzle for concentrated air flow

  • Blow torch

  • Safety equipment; chemical safe respirator, gloves, apron

  • Mixing cups and sticks

  • Coating resin - I use Glass Cast 3

  • White lacing pigment - I use Resin 8 Opaque White. You can use code TIDESOFTEAL for 15% off your order!

  • Colour pigments of your choice. I like to use acrylic paints (my current favourites are Golden Paints) and pigment powders/pastes.

There are a lot of useful resources to aid resin artists.

Resin is an expensive medium to work with. To work out how much resin you will need for your project you can use the Art Resin Calculator.

If you’re interested in making a river table, Glass Cast have an excellent guide which you can access here.

A paint chart can be an excellent way of picking colours for your project. I like to work with Golden Acrylic Paints as they have a variety of acrylics that are transparent in nature, allowing a layering effect to create depth in a piece.

“Don’t think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if its good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art.”

— Andy Warhol
